North Korean state media has criticized the Obama administration on Monday for seeking military action against the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS), calling it an example of U.S. “aggression and plunder”.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), summarizing an article in party organ the Rodong Sinmun, said that President Obama’s promise to “track down” ISIS in foreign territory is evidence of a wider plot by the U.S. to pursue world domination.

“This is a revelation of the U.S. invariable ambition to dominate the world by force by carrying out air raid on Syria and other sovereign states once again under the pretext of ‘busting terrorists’,” the article read.

“The U.S. tries to establish order and political system it favors by toppling independent countries by mobilizing massive armed forces while talking about ‘annihilation of terrorists’,” the article continued, also claiming that any action by the U.S. would be an example of state sponsored terrorism.

Obama has vowed to hunt down ISIS with the help of an international coalition of forces and said Saturday that over 40 countries have now pledged support towards the broader campaign against the group.

North Korean state media has leveled similar accusations against the U.S. for its interventions in the international arena and recently published an article calling for the reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Pyongyang argued that the U.S. manipulates the UNSC and its mechanisms to unfairly breach the sovereignty of other states, including North Korea.

Observers have speculated that North Korean officials may express concerns about the UNSC during the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly, where Obama is also expected to lobby for further international action against ISIS.

KCNA also criticized the U.S. for its past campaigns in the Middle East and stressed that any military action involving the U.S. will inevitably result in civilian deaths.

“As proven by the results of the ‘anti-terrorist war’ waged by the U.S. in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. over the past ten odd years, it is as clear as noonday that the projected air raid will kill many innocent civilians once again,” the article said.
